Luther Vandross Revisited!

Listened again to “The Ultimate Luther Vandross“. It contains great classics from the 80’s and 90’s that are still staples of “soul”,  and “smooth listening” radio stations around the country:
“A House Is Not A Home”, “Power of Love”, “Here and Now”, “Superstar”, “Give Me the Reason”, “Never Too Much. There are also some more recent songs like, “Dance With My Father” (which won the Grammy for “Song of the Year” 2004).

Starting off as a back up singer and writer of jingles, Vandross’ solo career began in 1981 with the hit album “Never Too Much”. He went on to win 8 Grammys and sell 25 million CDs.

Saw him only once in concert, but, like the rest of the audience was in the “Luther” zone throughout his terrific performance. Warm, personable and soooo talented, you were pulled right in and ya loved it.

Luther Vandross is still magic!

Active, Aggressive, Athletic, Assertive Aries Moon Weekend, OK!

The Moon in Aries Friday January 27, 2012 opens up the possibility of an upbeat, enthusiastic weekend. The Moon will be in Mars ruled Fire sign Aries until Sunday evening. Capture and use all that heated energy to make changes, to start/create anything. Pushy power abounds.

Have fun with all the physicality and “don’t mess with me”vibes, just realize when to dial back on the bombast. Think. Don’t make any radical moves or decisions, turn down the volume and put off the vicious thumb wrestling contest for another day.

But, definitely have a good time and bring others along with you on the joy ride.

Another New Year – Gong Hay Fat Choi!

This time it’s the Chinese Lunar New Year on Monday January 23, 2012 – the “Year of the Dragon”.  

A Dragon year is expected to bring fortune, luck, ambition and risk taking. All of which can impact our confidence during the year. This could be exciting!

FYI: The Chinese calendar has each of the 12 months represented by an animal with their particular characteristics Rat, Horse, Ox, Sheep, Tiger, Monkey, Rabbit, Rooster, Dragon, Dog, Snake, Pig.

The Chinese Lunar New Year, unlike the “Sun” calendar, can begin on a different date each year (next year – 2/10/2013, Year of the Snake)

Work or Revolt? Weekend Moon in Capricorn, then Aquarius

Most of the weekend belongs to an ambitious, focused Capricorn Moon. Ruled by Saturn, the planet of boundaries and life lessons (not always fun, but can be maturing) use this sign’s serious, organized and authoritarian energy to  accomplish, complete and be in charge. On Sunday night, January 22, 2012,there will be change when the Moon moves into the next sign, friendly, unpredictable Aquarius.

The Sun is already in the 11th sign of the Zodiac and when the Moon is visiting too, the Moon is called “New”. The 10 or so days following a New Moon is a great time to start a project, begin a class, create a masterpiece, etc. Power and possibilities for this Uranus ruled Air sign usually involves something to do with groups, or, something revolutionary- quite often both at the same time. Regardless, it will speak to Aquarian independence and love of the different.

Here Comes the Sun * Aquarius, 1/20/12 – Be Original!

The symbol for the 11th sign of the Zodiac is the “Water Bearer”, don’t be confused, Aquarius is definitely an Air sign ruled by the unpredictable, unconventional, undeniably radical Uranus. It’s all about independence, resentment for all “ties that bind”, sudden changes of direction and thinking “outside of the box”.  What a way to start the New Year!

Aquarians tend to be more intellectual than emotional, with a stubborn streak (it is one of three “Fixed” signs of the Zodiac, along with Taurus and Scorpio).  This determination often shows up when it involves tackling group issues. Their concern for others is authentic – they care, they are involved and they persevere to find resolutions to problems that touch the community. Contributing to the universe is a given.

Risking, being on the edge, or ledge, is often part of the Aquarian way of being in the world – sounds intense, but it’s done with humor. Their essence is great to spread around especially when there are important, life changing concerns to address. If you’re intent upon enrolling people into saving the world, you might as well have fun doing it.

Friday the 13th? No Worries – Virgo / Libra Moon Weekend!

The practical, no nonsense Virgo Moon on Friday January 13, 2012 can act as a buffer to any nervous feelings due to “triskaidekaphobia”. Focus on the usual concerns of this Mercury ruled Earth sign- health, nutrition, service to get thru the day. I have found that Friday the 13th is usually a lucky day for me. I don’t think it had anything to do with it being a payday or anything? 🙂  Regardless, I expect good things to happen! 

Early Saturday morning, the Moon glides into luxury loving Air sign Libra and remains there the rest of the weekend. Harmonious Venus casts its spell, and you can fill the days with silk and cashmere quality events if you want – people, conversation, pretty things.

Full Moon in Cancer – Family, Friends, Food!

Sunday and Monday, January 8 and 9, 2012, the Moon is in home loving, nurturing Cancer. The Sun is in the opposite sign of Capricorn, until the 20th, and when the luminaries are facing each other, the Moon will be lit in “Full” phase. The Moon rules water sign Cancer and its caring, emotional, moody traits are pushed to the forefront. You can have fun checking in with friends and family you might have missed during the holidays. Devise healthy, but comforting, foods for loved ones. (Even if not at your most jovial, you will still want to be around them.)

Take advantage of Full Moon energy – clear out the old, make space for the new. Gather and tie up any loose ends of projects started at the last New Moon, 12/24/11. Putting the finishing touches on any hot DIY home improvements should go well when handled within the last 2 weeks after the Lunar orb is “Full”.  (The circle begins again at the next “New” phase, 1/22/12.)

Chat & Nurture – Weekend Moon in Gemini, then Cancer

All day Friday, January 6, 2012, is about Gemini Moon influences: craving variety, being flexible, needing to communicate – such as talking and texting at the same time. Just pay attention to what you say or write, don’t get sloppy. (Remember that old saying about “loose lips”, etc) 

Saturday afternoon quiets down the restless energy as the Cancer Moon glides us toward calm and comfort. There will be nesting instincts with lots of sensitivity and emotion thrown in. (Don’t take anything personally.) There may also be nurturing and caring, which usually involves food. Share. Besides being a nice thing to do, it will also cut down on any overeating tendencies that might surface.

Bold & Bouncy for the 2012 New Year Weekend – Aries Moon!

Saturday and Sunday, the New Year’s weekend, will have us guided by the feisty influences of an Aries Moon. Aries is a Fire sign, ruled by the warrior planet Mars and when the Moon transits this 1st sign of the Zodiac, we feel braver, more physical, more “up for anything”.  Depending upon what the “anything” is, it could be the best of times or the most precarious of times.

It’s great for the energy and action – you won’t want to sit around for too long. Take advantage of all this need for movement and do something exciting and different.  But make no rash moves, curb any “in your face”, “won’t back down” urges and enjoy celebrating the arrival of 2012 with champagne or sparkling water smiles. Weekend: Zesty Sag, New Moon in Practical Cap & Merry Xmas!

When the Moon changes Zodiac signs – Fire sparked Sagittarius, then Earth grounded Capricorn – be flexible because moods may vary for the next few days. Friday December 23, 2011 starts the holiday weekend with a joyous, upbeat Sag Moon.  Ruled by jolly, Jupiter, this sign impels you to share yourself and spread good tidings – you’ll be able to wrap and nog with the best of them. Cheers!

Early Saturday, the Lunar orb slips into Capricorn and about 5 hours later, the Moon will be “New” in that same practical, responsible sign. New Moons are always full of “beginning” possibilities, energizing us to start / create amazing things. Saturn, Capricorn’s planet ruler, can supply the pragmatism and discipline to go with this sign’s need to go forward and pursue a path to success. Even though the Moon will change signs again (Aquarius on Monday morning), “New” energy lasts for about 10 days giving us a chance to make some plans, formulate some strategies to be brilliant.
