Get Ready For The Passionate, Intense Scorpio Sun!

astrology_chartwheel 2On October 22, Pacific Time, and October 23, 2013, Eastern Time, the Sun moved into Scorpio the 8th sign of the Zodiac. It brings intensity and deep feelings and can take partnerships to new sensual, sizzling heights.

With its traditional planet ruler Mars (energy and aggression) and its co ruler Pluto, (power and transformation) any superficial skimming of the surface just won’t do. Save the relationship “lite” for another time. Although, being too passionate and emotional may cause us to get wrapped up in life’s drama and then discover that the resulting “overwhelm” does not quite match the situation. Nothing wrong with using an internal pause button when dealing with friends and loved ones to give us a chance to think, rather than just react.

Mercury, communication planet, will be transiting Scorpio (including its 3 week Retrograde period) until December 5, 2013. Saturn, planet of discipline, perseverance, and boundaries, will be visiting Scorpio until December 2014. The demand for the “real”, in conversation and action, goes up a few notches.

Regardless of where it appears in your personal chart, we can accomplish a lot during this time using Scorpio’s power and focus. But also remember that laughter can be used as a balm to stabilize, bring things into perspective and lighten the atmosphere. Save any overflowing angst and/or grudges for another day – it may dissipate as the mood changes.

3rd & *Final* Mercury Retrograde Of 2013!

Mercury Retrograde in the emotional, water sign of Scorpio begins on October 21, 2013. Yes, it’s the last one of the year. Back up your stuff! Don’t let carelessness or lack of focus bite you in the nether regions. Mercury, (planet of communications, transportation, education, manual dexterity) stopping and then moving backwards in the sky is not a tragedy, but it can get in the way of things running smoothly. So, just in case – pay attention. Make sure loose ends are tied. We will get thru these potentially dicey 3 weeks once again.

Astro Planet Glyphs 2As always, use this time to review or revisit projects. Don’t go overboard, especially with the Retrograde occurring in “dig deeper” Scorpio, the 8th sign of the Zodiac. Its natural intensity is a great opportunity to research, re calculate, re think. Does the plan make sense? Was anything missed? Are there any monetary, financial recounts necessary? When Mercury goes Direct on November 10, things will gradually become unstuck as the planet picks up speed. You’ll be able go forward with anything you may have discovered.

BTW: Mercury just “appears” to go backwards. Planets only move forward, however, due to the earth’s orbit around the Sun, the positions are such that it looks like a reverse motion from earth.

*Mercury Retrograde – Monday 10/21/13, 6:29 AM Eastern / 3:29 AM Pacific (Until November 10, 2013)

Aries Full Moon, Then Weekend in Taurus

Astro Moon FullThis month’s Full Moon is in the Fire sign of Aries on Friday October 18, 2013. During this Full phase, the Libra Sun is directly opposite and lights the Aries Moon. Rather than the more familiar crescent shape, the Moon is beautifully round. As it “wanes” on its way to the 3rd and 4th quarters, it’s a good time to finish up old projects, clean up messes that you have been staring at for the past few weeks. An Aries Moon is perfect for physical activity. So use the extra energy and get it done! By clearing out useless stuff, you create space for the “new” – ideas, things, spaces, people. However, this forceful sign, ruled by Mars, can be a little over the top sometimes. Don’t automatically use the flame thrower to weed out the old, think things through before throwing it out.

Then as the Venus ruled Taurus Moon arrives early Saturday morning, we have 2 days of practicality, resourcefulness, security mindedness along with leanings toward comfort and beauty. Diverse and all good.

Have a great weekend!.

Aquarius Moon This Weekend – Think “Unexpected”

Astro New Moon CrescentIf preparing for the unexpected makes you nervous, just think of the fun you can have. Beginning Saturday, 10/12/13, the Aquarius Moon gives us an opportunity to let go of convention, do some “out of the box” thinking, focus on the welfare of others and be a little rebellious.

Air sign Aquarius has a stubborn streak (it is one of three “Fixed” signs of the Zodiac, along with Taurus and Scorpio) and is ruled by the unpredictable planet Uranus. It’s all about independence, sudden changes of direction, etc. Relax, go with the flow. Give more attention to another Aquarian trait which is contributing to the universe in some way.  Groups, other people and their causes are a natural concern. Not a bad way to spend a weekend – be spontaneous, share yourself.

Enjoy!

Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal” on DVD

Famed director Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal”, (1957) with the amazing Max von Sydow and the rest of his stable of actors (Gunnar Björnstrand, Bengt Ekerot, Nils Poppe, and Bibi Andersson) gained a cult following when first seen in the U.S. I was introduced, in the late 60’s, to this beautiful black and white film about a chess playing chalk faced man in a black cloak and loved it. It still shows up on those “Greatest Films of all times” lists after all these years and I still think it’s terrific.

In short, the story is about a 14th century Swedish knight that returns from the crusades. After being followed home thru the devastation of a war torn and plague infested countryside, he plays a game of chess with “death” to save his life. Lots of stark landscapes, lots of symbolism and abstraction – great stuff! “The Seventh Seal” isn’t shown much now, so I am grateful for the DVD.

Ingmar Bergman, (1918-2007) – Hugely prolific, below are only some of his films that are available on DVD:

1950s: Smiles of a Summer Night, The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries

1960s: The Virgin Spring, Through a Glass Darkly, Persona

1970s: Cries and Whispers, Scenes from a Marriage , Autumn Sonata

1980s: Fanny and Alexander

Where Will The Moon Be This Weekend?

Astro New Moon CrescentThe Moon’s Zodiac sign position can set the mood or energy for the day and when the Lunar orb is in its “New” phase, the sign’s traits can intensify. It happens each month when the Sun and the Moon are in the same sign. So consider the Airy Libra Moon on Friday October 4, 2013 a great time for beginnings, a great time to start something new, a great time to be original – relationships, artistic endeavors. The universe will support innovation for the next 10 days or so until the Moon is “Full” – which begins a period of finishing up, completing projects, etc.

Early Sunday morning, the Moon will slide into serious, secretive, stubborn, Scorpio – intense. As always, this Water sign will have us “feel” things. Emotions can be dramatic and overwhelming. Be aware of the tendency to be easily wounded – keep breathing. While the Moon is in the 8th sign, we may have little patience for the superficial – “real” conversations, one-on-one connections are demanded, drilling down to reveal the hidden is not unusual. (Going deep has its advantages.)

We can be flexible, go with the flow – we can have a great weekend!

Nurture & Royalty – Cancer & Leo This Weekend!

Astro moon-waning-crescent-lOn Friday September 27, 2013, the Moon is happy in the Water sign it rules –Cancer, the 4th sign of the Zodiac. There will be sensitivity and emotion, but also the possibility of good home cooking. (Not a bad combo, as long as you don’t over eat because of all the sensitivity and emotion.) Don’t let moodiness get in the way and let Cancer’s kind, mothering instincts invite those you are fond of to share the healthy and tasty things on the stove.

Early Sunday morning, the Moon takes a regal bow in Fire sign Leo (always a time for some fun and drama). Leo is ruled by the Sun, so dress up for the occasion. Take advantage of all those golden “royal” feelings and show off a little – attention will be paid. Spread around the other sunny good stuff too, like generosity and creativity – enjoy.

Have a super weekend!

Autumn Equinox = Fall = Libra Sun!

astrology_chartwheel 2Fall arrived on Sunday afternoon, September 22, 2013. This also means that the Sun is in Airy, Libra. Lovely. Relationships of all types are now in the forefront – family, friends, marriages, business partners. It’s fun to be with people, to chat, flirt, laugh. The 7th sign of the Zodiac, ruled by Venus, loves beautiful things, wants to be in the midst of music, art and charm filled situations  – wants all the good stuff to warm and lift the spirits. My suggestion for anything Libran is always: meet some fun folks for brunch. With Communication planet Mercury transiting Libra until 9/29/13, it should make for even more clever and charming conversation for this very social sign.

As always, your experience of the Sun in a particular sign depends most upon where it appears in your chart, but a Libra Sun does set a mood to benefit us all. Edges can be smoothed off of some contentious interactions, they may soften and even sparkle. Libra wants to cast a glow of congeniality. It’s all about socializing, networking, getting along.

The Libra way is to see both sides of an issue before making decisions. Seeking harmony by trying to be “fair” can sometimes lead to appearing wishy-washy. Using the “Pros/Cons” list method for making decisions can just string the selection process out. Be aware that important action can be stalled by over think. Paying attention to instinct and being honest will give a more direct line to a choice. Don’t hesitate to show your spine when needed (some may be surprised when the Libra inner tensile strength is revealed), you’ll still be loved!

Libra Sun * Fall Equinox 9/22/13 – 4:44PM Eastern / 1:44PM Pacific

Gemstone: Opal * Power colors: Blues and violets * Body Part: Kidneys

BTW:  The Scale is Libra’s Astrology symbol. All other Zodiac signs are either people or animals.

Moon in Sensual Taurus For The Weekend!

Astro moon-waning-crescent-lAfter the fierce and feisty Aries Moon on Thursday and Friday, we calm down when the Lunar orb moves into earthy, solid, Venus ruled Taurus on Saturday 9/21/20 remaining until early Monday. It’s about sensuality, life’s beauty and pleasures, but since the second sign of the Zodiac is a “fixed” sign, it also brings forth the obstinate bull in us.

Is there such a thing as inflexible love?  Nobody wants to lose, give up/ give in, change direction. “Stickin-to-your-guns” works – until it doesn’t. Pay attention and accept when being stubborn stops getting the results wanted. Relax and luxuriate in great food, great people and great atmoshere as much as you can during this final weekend of Summer.

Have a delightful weekend!

Harvest Full Moon in Pisces 9/19/13

The “Full” stage of the Moon intensifies the characteristics/energy of the Astrology sign its in. So, Full Moon in Water sign Pisces, think: emotion, creativity, hazy reality, imagination. If you have something important to do, stay focused. Be discerning. If things seem a little vague, you may want to delay any decisions.

Astro Harvest_moonUse any heightened sensitivity for the creation of beautiful things. Spread some Pisces kindness among family and friends. Smile at nice looking strangers. (This is where that “discerning” thing comes in handy)

Be as imaginative, caring and compassionate as you wish, just don’t be taken in by any promises or sad stories. Be present, stay in the moment – dismiss any escapist urges. Reality may often bite, but it can be handled without mind altering options. Take care of your inner self. You matter.

Full Moon, September 19, 2013 – 7:13AM EDT / 4:13AM PDT

FYI: The “Harvest” Moon is whichever Full Moon occurs closest to the Autumn Equinox.
